This book can stand alone. However, Tory plays a very important part in the first book of the Avengement Series, Stiletto, so if you haven't read it you may want to. As an author that writes novels about the sublime joy and bitter tragedy of being human, I have straight, gay and lesbian characters in my novels, and some of the novels feature a gay (or in the future, lesbian) main character. Why? Because humanity truly is a rainbow of different types of people. Humanity is made up of different races, sexual preferences, religions, ethnic groups, lifestyles, likes, dislikes...you name it. I write drama, and drama happens to everyone.I also really enjoy reading gay fiction (much more than I do M/M because I don't often read romance and M/M is usually romance) for the same reasons. I find the struggles gay and lesbian people have gone through fascinating, heartbreaking, and enlightening. I've also always had gay and lesbian friends in my life, so it happened without really planning on writing it. Now I make a point of doing so.

I mentioned I don't often read romance. That's because of the strict formula romance writing is subjected to. I don't enjoy reading books that I KNOW have to have a happy ending, that I KNOW the two people in love with never cheat. I like to be SURPRISED—both good and bad. However, I do make some exceptions and read some gay romance because writer's of it tend to color outside the lines. It takes guts to do that, and I applaud those who do. 

Why don't you stop over and visit Rainbow Gold Reviews and see what they have to offer? It's new, so I'm cheering for them. I also hoping they don't just end up being another M/M gay romance site. We need places that promote solid LGBT fiction in all genres. Humans read more than romance—no matter what their sexual orientation is.

Sex Trafficking is Big Business

As an indie author, one of the things I get to do is write about subjects that perhaps traditional publishing wouldn't go for, simply because it doesn't fit their expectations for the current climate of what the majority of readers are currently reading in fiction. I don't happen to think people read that narrowly, but then again, I'm no publishing expert, I'm simply an author, artist and reader who frequently crosses genres.

I sure crossed genres when I started writing my new saga of revenge and redemption. I went from historical fiction with The Gastien Series to dramatic contemporary psychological suspense (try saying that after having a couple of martinis!). Still, the writing style is the same. I'm trying to develop a brand. My style? Gritty, raw, "real". Show them most of life is not black & white, but shades of grey. Dramatic.Sometimes brutal. But always, always, try to make readers think and feel.

This new saga, There Was a House is about sex trafficking. It's a subject coming up more and more often on the news, and that's a good thing. Putting a halt to this horrifying industry should be one of the world's priorities. At the very least, it should be one of America's. We talk about freedom a lot here, but for many young teenagers, freedom never comes.According to UNICEF, 2 million children are estimated to be trafficking victims of sex trade every year. 2% are male.No one really talks about the males.They are the totally forgotten victims. In the USA, this occurs EVERY SINGLE DAY. Thousands of teenagers are forced into the sex trade right under our noses. Their average age? 12 to 14 years.

And so I decided to write a saga about revenge and redemption. I'll be the first to admit that the girls and the boy in this story work in a place hundreds of times nicer than 99.9% of these victims will ever see. They are treated horribly, but compared to what really happens to most of the real victims, the treatment pales. I also realize revenge remains only a dream in reality—so far.

So, forgive me for fictionalizing this story of revenge. I'm hoping in some small way I can help open the eyes of readers to this very real issue, and perhaps then we will make enough noise to get lawmakers to act in a way that treats these teens as victims, not criminals—and the johns and pimps as the scum they are. Then, and only them, will justice be served and this criminal activity stopped. 

Until then I dream. And give fictional characters a chance for revenge. Because somehow I have to feel people responsible sometimes pay.

The first book in the saga, House of Pleasure begins the story. Men, of course, see a brothel as a place of pleasure. For the victims working there, it is anything but. Phoenix swears to destroy the man who bought her, his whorehouse, and the men who use young girls for their pleasure

As an indie author of a five book series that is historical fiction, family saga, and drama, I am excited to finally have The Gastien Series complete. This series spans three generations, bouncing between France and the United States over a period of one hundred plus years. As such, it is both French historical fiction  and American historical fiction. The series is also psychological fiction (see definition by clicking link)

Different books in the series belong in different genres. All five fit in the aforementioned categories. The first book, Gastien Part 1: The Cost of the Dream is also a coming of age novel. (over 148,000 words)

The second, Gastien Part 2: From Dream to Destiny is also a love story between a man and a woman, yet it does not fit the formula for romance. (over 128,000 words) Did you really expect a bohemian artist to fit inside of a formula? :)

The third Tristan Michel: Bloodline of Passion (115,000 words) is all of the above.

Giselle: Keeper of the Flame, book four, (113,000 words) is all of the above and the second half is gay fiction and gay coming of age.

The fifth, and final, book Gastien: Circle of Destiny is all of the above except for coming of age. Additionally, it is a gay romance (yes, it fits the formula) and a gay love story.  (over 142,000 words) It is perhaps the most tender story of the series.

When I finished the series I realized that I had included at least one gay or lesbian character in each book. I didn't set out to do that on purpose and so I paused to wonder why. Then I realized it came natural to me because I have knowingly had gay and lesbian friends since the 1970's. Upon further thought I realized that ALL books should have gay and/or lesbian characters in them because all families do...but unfortunately too many have to hide it. I dream of the day when we are all accepted as human beings and sexual preference is not a dividing factor.

So, now The Gastien Series is complete, and I felt I wanted to do something celebrate it. Realizing that many people would hesitate to buy a new author's long novels, especially five of them, I decided to take a risk and make my gift this:
